Auditions for “The Shadow of a Gunman”

Auditions will be held Sunday, January 24th from 1:00 to 3:30,  Monday, January 25th from 7:30 – 9:30 and Tuesday January 26th from 7:30 – 9:30 at Gaelic Park.

Callbacks if necessary will be held on Thursday, January 28th, at 7:30 pm.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

Roles are for 8 men and 3 women.

The play runs for 10 performances. It opens and runs for 9 performances at Gaelic Park on Friday, April 8th and runs for three weekends closing on Sunday, April 24th.

The 10th performance will be in competition at the Acting Irish International Theatre Festival in Milwaukee Wisconsin on Thursday, May 26th.

A list of characters appears below:

Donal Davoren – a poet of in his thirties living with Seamus in the tenement. Some of the residents suspect he has an affiliation with the IRA. He wants to be something more than what he is but circumstances stop him.

Seamus Shields – a broken-down, lazy peddler in his thirties disillusioned over the nationalist cause he supports who wishes the conflict will end.

Tommy Owens – a younger man in his 20’s-early 30’s that is enamored with the Republican effort.

Adolphus Grigson – an alcoholic resident of the tenement; a self-proclaimed “Orangeman”, Grigson’s Protestantism exemplified by his Bible and his picture of King William’s triumphant at the Battle of the Boyne hanging on the wall doesn’t exempt him from being harassed by the Black and Tans.

Mrs Grigson – Adolphus’ wife. A long suffering woman with kind heart and gentle spirit. Always on the brink of breaking down.

Minnie Powell – a woman in her twenties that fawns over Davoren by virtue of his supposed IRA connections; she is sardonically equated to Kathleen Ni Houlihan, the symbol of Irish Nationalism.

Mr Mulligan – the landlord of the tenement.

Mr Maguire – an IRA volunteer and friend of Seumus’.

Mrs Henderson – a resident of a neighboring tenement and a champion of Mr Gallogher’s plea.

Mr Gallogher – a resident of a neighboring tenement seeking the  IRA’s help.

An Auxiliary – a soldier of the Auxiliary Division
