SYNOPSIS:
“Wigs on the Green” is a rollicking comedy about love, mistaken identities and the folly of youth. The story is of widow Betty Smith and her daughters Kitty and Maureen, two young ladies desperate for romance, excitement and fun. If they are to secure such wanton happiness, they need to succeed in rubber-stamping their mother’s blessing to go the dance.
A simpler time sees life revolve around the community. Enter Tom Bell, the Matthews brothers, Jim and Jack, Michael Rooney, and Maggie Maguire, who all have a word to say, a plan of action, and maybe even a dream of their own… Who said love was just for young ones?
This play was originally written by an unknown author in the 1930s for a church group and was first adapted by John McDonnell in 1957.
