SYNOPSIS:

“This is the story of the McLaughlin family who live in a predominately Irish Catholic section of Chicago. As they prepare for their annual St.Patrick’s Day party, life changing events are taking place within their family. Their son Patrick has to decide about entering the priesthood. Their daughter Katrina shields a secret and Uncle Mick conspires with the neighbor girl Colleen who is secretly in love with Patrick.

Secrets are heard and gossip ensues. Add a live in Grandma with her old world beliefs and a mother who is neither Irish nor Catholic and a comedy unfolds. ”

Synopsis

Gertie O’Grady, a retired teacher and spinster, comes to stay with her niece, Mary Murphy, after a spell in hospital. Mary tries to persuade her aunt to make a will. Meanwhile, Mary’s husband, Dan, comes up with an elaborate plan to get their hands on her money.

Synopsis:

It’s the height of the Celtic Tiger in Ireland, and the country’s economy is booming as it never has in its history. In the heart of Dublin, the repercussions are hitting close to home at the historic pub owned by Michael Ryan. A local developer is salivating at the chance to turn the area where the pub sits into a “Muesli Belt”, a mix of trendy bistros, health food stores, and new apartments to accommodate an influx of well-heeled yuppies moving into the area.

The pub is a community meeting place for locals who Mick counts among his closest friends. The choices he makes will affect their lives and his own. As the Tiger transforms the landscape of the country, how will it change the community and the people?

Gabriel Foley is a middle-aged bachelor farmer, who lives with his elderly mother. He has been unlucky in love many times, much to his mother’s frustration. She thinks she’ll never get rid of him. Then he meets upmarket, Hazel Myers and joins the posh drama group in the nearby town in order to romance her.

He is unaware that Chrissie McCabe – a cheerful countrywoman, who comes in to help him and his mother – fancies him. By the time Chrissie makes her feelings known to Gabriel, he has already got Hazel’s attention. He and Chrissie decide to try going out together. He tries to let Hazel down gently, but Hazel is not a woman to give up easily.

The Play

The plot centers on the wake of Tom Healy, a man who was known to be ‘fond of a drop’. Tom’s controversial last request threatens to humiliate his family and make them the laughing stock of the small fishing village in which they live. “Not exactly an avid church-goer”, Tom’s dying wish flies in the face of traditional religious ceremony in 1970?s Ireland. The priest and doctor need to be consulted, as does Tom’s son Martin who is returning from New York for the funeral. His return is eagerly awaited by neighbour Joan who has held a candle for Martin since his departure to the States. When conniving old neighbour Rose calls to pay her respects, the mayhem really develops and her antics set in motion a sequence of hilarious events.

The Play

Philadelphia, Here I Come! centres on a young Irishman, Gar O’Donnell, on the eve of his departure for Philadelphia. Gar is presented to us as two individual characters, played by two different actors, representing his Public and Private selves. Public Gar is the man who is seen and who interacts with the other characters in the play. Private Gar represents Gar’s inner thoughts and feelings and he can interact only with Public Gar. As the evening unfolds and through a series of flashbacks, memories and present action, we learn of his conflicting feelings about leaving Ballybeg, which represents for him both that which he detests and that which he loves.
